The Ministry of Education, through its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) department, is spearheading various initiatives to enhance the skills of learners to meet international standards.
Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department for TVET, Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, said the initiatives aim to improve job prospects for graduates seeking opportunities abroad and ensure their safety and well-being.
Addressing the public at St. James Kegonge High School on Sunday during the Embu ACK Diocesan Education Day, the PS noted that her department advocates equal time allocation for classroom learning and industrial experience.
“I am finalizing the cabinet memo so that the cabinet can advise how we will incentivize the industry,” said Dr. Muoria.
Muoria emphasized her commitment to deploying highly qualified technical educators to equip learners with the necessary skills to thrive in global job markets.
“I call upon all skilled international job seekers with genuine certificates to attend the second Job Fair on June 12th to 14th in Embu Stadium,” Muoria added.

In March this year, the Public Service Commission announced 2,000 job openings for vocational and technical trainers in a public notice.
The notice also indicated the government’s intent to recruit 1,313 competent degree/higher diploma holders and diploma holders.

The educators will be distributed among 227 vocational and training institutions countrywide.
Muoria further stated that her department was working with other government ministries to develop policies and programs that protect the rights and safety of citizens working abroad.
She mentioned close collaboration with the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, the Ministry of Public Service, and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
“During the second Job Fair, job seekers will be trained on their safety while working in the diaspora,” Muoria added.
Muoria reminded learners to carry along the discipline learned in class in all aspects of their lives, as it is crucial for the prosperity of their careers.
