The Kenyan government has dispatched a special security unit to Embu County following a sharp surge in criminal activity that has left residents and business owners in fear.

The move follows a series of break-ins that have hit nearly ten businesses within a week, sparking public protests on Wednesday across Embu Town and surrounding areas.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, speaking on Friday after meeting local traders, confirmed the deployment of a Rapid Response Team from Nairobi to reinforce local law enforcement and dismantle the criminal networks behind the robberies.

“The government has heard your cries. This team will remain on the ground until every one of these criminals is arrested,” Kindiki assured.

He stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for businesses, citing their role in economic growth.

In a related move, Kindiki announced the reinstatement of Chief Jackson Kamau, previously suspended, following public appeals lauding his anti-crime efforts.

“Development cannot thrive in chaos. The people spoke, and we listened,” said Kindiki.

He warned public servants against engaging in political activities, emphasizing that those found derailing service delivery would face disciplinary action.

The Deputy President also issued a stern warning to criminal gangs, likening their treatment to that of terrorist groups if their activities persist.

“Their days are numbered. We will not allow Embu to descend into lawlessness,” he declared.

Kindiki urged residents to protest peacefully and protect public infrastructure, assuring open communication channels for grievances.

The deployment aims to restore order and reassure a business community rattled by a recent wave of insecurity.
