Stakeholders, educators, and students have called on the government to increase funding for robotics education to equip learners with critical skills for a technology-driven future.

The stakeholders made the appeal during the 61st Kenya Science and Engineering Fair held at Kangaru Boys High School in Embu.

Students showcased innovations and emphasized the need for more resources, including robotics kits and practical training.

Olimo Oscar, a student from S.C.L.P Samaj School in Nairobi, lauded the ongoing efforts by the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) in promoting robotics in schools.

He said the initiative supports Kenya’s industrialization agenda but warned that its success depends on proper infrastructure and sustained investment.

“Robotics is shaping the future. We need well-equipped labs and support from all education stakeholders to benefit fully,” said Oscar.

Students described robotics as a game-changer in the school curriculum, calling it a pathway to innovation and economic growth.

Many urged the government to expand the program to reach more schools, especially in rural areas.

CEMASTEA has been at the forefront of STEM education in Kenya through innovation camps, digital literacy programs, and boot camps that offer practical experience in robotics, mobile app development, and 3D design.

The institution partners with organizations like UCMAS Kenya and STEM Impact Centre Kenya to support learners in underserved areas and foster creativity, critical thinking, and resilience.

Education experts at the fair emphasized that increasing support for robotics is a strategic move to prepare a self-reliant, tech-savvy generation capable of driving Kenya’s industrial and digital transformation.
