Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has unequivocally refuted recent reports claiming zero development in the county under the leadership of Governor Cecily Mbarire.

The senator, speaking to journalists after a church service at ACK Mayori in Siakago, Mbeere North Sub-county, attributed the development challenges to pending bills inherited from the previous administration.

In a report released last month, the controller of the budget reported that 10 governors including Cecily Mbarire of Embu failed to spend on growth programs during the first quarter of 2023/24.

Mundigi noted that the financial quagmire the county was put in by the former regime had constrained the current government’s ability to swiftly implement new projects and initiatives.

“It’s crucial to understand the context in which Governor Mbarire assumed office. The inherited burden of pending bills has significantly impacted the county’s financial flexibility, creating hurdles for immediate development initiatives,” he explained.

He urged the public and Mbarire opponents to consider the complexities of the situation before passing judgment on the governor’s performance.

Senator Mundigi noted that despite the setbacks, the county’s development plans remain on track, with tangible results expected in the upcoming financial year.

He calls for unity among Embu leaders, emphasizing the importance of avoiding obstacles that could hinder the county’s development initiatives.

At the same time, senator Mundigi urged Embu residents to exercise patience as the county government works towards stabilizing the local economy.
