The Embu County Senator, Alexander Munyi Mundigi, has called on leaders, organizations and well-wishers to donate computers to rural public schools, saying many institutions are struggling to comply with the demands of Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Mundigi made the appeal while donating 10 computers to Kigari Secondary School and two more to Compassion Kitty, a community-based organization supporting persons living with disabilities in Embu County.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Senator emphasized the importance of equity in education, noting that access to digital tools should not depend on a learner’s background or location.
“Every student deserves equal access to modern learning resources to prepare them for the future,” he said, adding that technology plays a central role in effective CBC implementation.
He urged stakeholders across Embu to partner in equipping schools with ICT infrastructure, saying collective efforts are critical to bridging the digital divide and improving learning outcomes in rural areas.
Margaret Wanja, principal of Kirigi Secondary School, welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and transformative.
She said the computers will strengthen digital literacy, research capacity and overall academic performance.
Education leaders continue to raise concerns over disparities in ICT access between urban and rural schools, with calls growing louder for sustained support to ensure no learner is left behind.
