Kapi Limited Company has launched a groundbreaking organic pesticide to address the growing concerns surrounding traditional pesticide use and its environmental impact.

The product—Agripest—is poised to revolutionize the agricultural industry by offering a sustainable alternative to conventional chemical-based pest control.

Agripest boasts a unique formula that leverages natural compounds derived from croton tree nuts extracts, minimizing harm to the environment.

“We strive to launch sustainable products aligning with the increasing global demand for eco-friendly solutions in agriculture,” said Ian Shaw, the company’s Managing Director.

The MD said Agripest was a hundred percent natural Kenyan product with zero resistance from insects.

“To produce the pesticide, we use active ingredients grown by Kenyan farmers and it’s very safe to use. It has low mammalian toxicity and can be used from planting to harvesting,” he said.

He added that the pesticide had undergone rigorous testing, demonstrating its efficacy in controlling a wide range of pests without compromising the quality of crops.

Mt. Kenya regional manager, Eunice Ngatia said farmers using Agripest can expect reduced environmental impact, healthier soil, and crops free from harmful residues associated with traditional pesticides.

Ms Ngatia said after spraying agripest on the crops, farmers can harvest the produce after 24 hours.

She noted that the pesticide is a broad spectrum, effective against a wide range of pests such as Fall Armyworms, Thrips, Aphids, Whiteflies, Mealybugs, and Tuta absoluta.

“We understand the importance of balancing crop protection with environmental stewardship, and this organic pesticide is a testament to that dedication,” she said.

After launching the pesticide in Embu, officers from the company demonstrated its proper use advising farmers to stick to the recommended prescriptions.

Ms Ngatia warned farmers against misguided excessive use of the pesticide as it may cause pest resistance in the long run.

“Any farm input should be used as per the recommended prescriptions. Using excess pesticide doesn’t improve its efficiency,” she warned.

The product is useful in crops such as Maize, Beans, Miraa, Coffee, Tomatoes, fruit crops, and vegetable crops among others.

Agricultural expert Loyd Mwaniki lauded the product, highlighting the potential positive impact on biodiversity and long-term soil health.

The company promised continuous intensified awareness campaigns, training workshops, and extension services to educate farmers on the responsible use of pesticides.
