The Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and Southern Sudan, Hubertus Maria Van Megen revealed that the Catholic Diocese of Embu will continue waiting for its substantive bishop.

Christians had anticipated the appointment of a new spiritual leader judging from the recent appointments of auxiliary bishops in some dioceses.

When people understood that the Papal Nuncio would preside over the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral, they were hopeful that the time to name the Embu’s shepherd was ripe.

However, this was not the case since the Pope’s representative urged Christians to be patient, noting that Embu would receive their bishop soon.

Speaking at the Diocese’s Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral Church on Holy Thursday, the Nuncio said he had not come to announce the next bishop.

“Keep on praying for the new bishop, whom I hope will arrive soon with the grace of God,” the Nuncio said.

The Embu bishop’s seat became vacant after the former bishop Rt. Rev. Paul Kariuki Njiru was moved to Wote Diocese in Makueni County in September last year.

During his installation as the Bishop of Wote, Pope Francis appointed Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria as the Apostolic administrator in the Diocese of Embu.
