Newlywed couples have been urged to uphold strong family values and serve as role models amid rising concerns over the challenges facing modern marriages.
Speaking on Sunday during the Jubilee Weddings at St. Joseph Kianjokoma Catholic Parish, where 11 couples solemnized their marriages, Rt. Rev. Peter Kimani, Bishop of Embu, emphasized the importance of mutual understanding, respect, and listening in families.
Bishop Kimani noted that many young people fear marriage due to unresolved conflicts and challenges among couples.
He encouraged families to foster open communication, stressing that “Listening helps one to understand each other and deal with issues accordingly.”
He further advised the newlyweds to embrace prayer as a foundation for a lasting marriage.
“Those who pray together and respect each other stay together,” he said, highlighting the significance of spiritual commitment in sustaining unions.
The event coincided with St. Joseph’s Feast Day, the patron saint of Kianjokoma Parish, which also marked the parish’s annual Family Day celebrations.

Bishop Kimani, who also serves as the bishop in charge of the youth at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), reiterated the Church’s role in strengthening families through faith and moral teachings.
Rev. Fr. John Henry Nyaga, the Kianjokoma parish priest, congratulated the couples for solemnizing their marriages in the Church and encouraged more Christians to follow suit.
The Kianjokoma Jubilee Weddings mark the first mass weddings in the Diocese of Embu since Pope Francis declared 2025 the Jubilee Year of Hope.
