Mbeere South MP Eng. Nebert Muriuki has dismissed political pressure from five area MCAs who announced their intention to back one of their own for the parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.
Speaking in response to the MCAs’ declaration earlier this week, Muriuki said the move was democratic but noted that real power lies with the electorate, not elected leaders.
“They have five votes, the rest belong to the people we serve,” he stated.

The legislator downplayed the MCAs’ push as premature, adding that it is not yet campaign season. “This is not a political period, so I will not respond politically,” he said.
He took a swipe at the MCAs, saying that despite some of them having served for over seven years, they are only now claiming to understand how parliamentary work is done.
“I have worked for two years and done a good job. I’ve trained them on how to work effectively, and they’ve admitted they’ve learned,” Muriuki said.
He added that while they may think they understand his approach in theory, they still need practical lessons.
“They should follow me closely so I can teach them what has made my work different from my predecessors. We will not hand over this job to recruits again,” he emphasized.
Muriuki reiterated his focus on delivering development and said leadership should be left to individuals who understand the role and can serve constituents effectively.
