Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku and his longtime political rival, Dr. Dominic Murage, have set aside their differences in a rare show of unity, pledging to develop the semi-arid Mbeere region in Embu County.
In a move that stunned many, Dr. Murage, a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi and former chief strategist for ex-MP Charles Muriuki Njagagua, publicly endorsed Ruku’s leadership, citing his impressive track record in education and infrastructure.
Speaking at Karerema Market in Evurore Ward during a bursary issuance event, Dr. Murage lauded the MP’s Imarisha Elimu program, which has transformed learning institutions by replacing mud-walled classrooms with modern facilities.
“The initiative has also provided financial relief to parents, reducing school fees and introducing a feeding program for lower primary pupils to enhance nutrition and focus,” he said.
Under the program, parents with children in day schools pay only Sh1,300 per term, boarding school students receive Sh8,000 annually in bursaries, and university and tertiary students get Sh10,000 per year.
Dr. Murage’s dramatic shift in stance was met with surprise by Karerema residents, who watched as he arrived at the event alongside MP Ruku.

Addressing the crowd, both leaders emphasized the importance of unity, stating that political differences should never hinder development.
“Our region has suffered marginalization for too long. It is time to put aside politics and work together for the good of Mbeere North,” Ruku stated.
His sentiments were echoed by Dr. Murage, who called on residents to embrace collaboration, stressing that leadership should focus on service delivery rather than division.
MP Ruku reiterated the need for leaders to set aside political differences and work together for the progress of Mbeere North and the nation at large.
