A fire broke out at Izaak Walton Inn on Tuesday evening, destroying nine rooms before firefighters contained the blaze.
The incident, reportedly triggered by bush-clearing activities, caused significant damage, though the total loss is yet to be established.
According to the hotel’s proprietor, Edward Mugo, the fire started around 4:00 p.m. and spread rapidly, consuming several wooden structures.
The swift intervention of the Embu County fire brigade prevented the flames from engulfing other sections of the hotel.
“I want to thank the Embu County Government for improving fire response services, as it is helping save major institutions from losing extensive property,” said Ruguru Ngandori MCA Muturi Mwombo, who visited the scene.
Mwombo urged institutions to enhance fire safety measures, including installing firefighting equipment and conducting regular fire drills.
He also called on residents to exercise caution when handling fire-prone activities and to equip their homes with basic firefighting tools to contain small fires before they spread.
Mugo assured guests that the rest of the hotel remains operational, adding that investigations were underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
