Bodaboda riders in Dallas estate of Embu town blocked a major road on Saturday morning to protest its poor condition and demand urgent repairs from the Embu County government.
The protest happened along the Dallas–Shell feeder stretch, where riders lit bonfires, dug trenches, and planted banana stems to stop vehicles from passing. The action disrupted transport and brought business in the area to a standstill.
“We are tired of risking our lives and damaging our bikes. This road no longer supports safe travel. We won’t move until the county fixes it,” said Martin Murithi, a bodaboda rider.
Riders said they have raised the issue with the county government several times, but nothing has changed.
They accused leaders of ignoring their pleas and only making empty promises during election campaigns.
“Shockingly, such a key road inside town gets no attention. All we hear are promises. No action,” said Moses Wachira.
Local business owners also joined the protest, saying the poor road and drainage have caused rainwater to flood shops and business premises. Some have suffered heavy losses and even closed their businesses temporarily.
By midday, thick smoke from burning tires filled the air, and banana plants blocked the road completely. Residents walking past joined in the calls for urgent action.
“This is just the beginning. If they don’t fix the road, we’ll continue blocking it,” one rider shouted.
The protesters said they want a simple, passable road, not luxury. They warned that no vehicle would pass until the county government responds.
By press time, no official statement had come from the County government.
