The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has declared a 24-hour closure of the Embu-Meru highway.

The road has been closed at Mutunduri near Ena following a heavy downpour that has undermined the Ikong’u bridge near St. Mary’s Kiangima Girls School.

The authority cautioned road users against any attempts to use the affected area of the road during the closure period in the interest of their safety.

Motorists and commuters utilizing the busy road are advised to seek alternative routes and caution while traveling through the diversions, considering possible congestion and increased traffic volumes.

The authority advised motorists heading to Chuka and Meru from Embu Mutunduri to use Kianjokoma Runyenjes (A9), a distance of approximately 25km.

KeNHA said motorists heading to Embu from Meru and Chuka should use Runyenjes-Kianjokoma-Mutunduri (A9).

Motorists heading to Kivwe and Ena from Embu should use Mutunduri-Kipugua-3.4km (paved) Kipugua-Mutetu 5.2km (unpaved) and Mutetu-Kivwe (A9)- 0.6km (paved).

Embu County Police Commander Nicholas Maina has further advised motorists to follow directions by traffic police officers.
