Boda boda riders in Imenti South Constituency are set to benefit from a new economic empowerment initiative aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.
Imenti South MP Shadrack Mwiti on Thursday organized an empowerment program at Nkubu Kanguru in Meru County, targeting riders from across the constituency. The initiative seeks to support them in establishing a petrol station and a spare parts shop.
Speaking during the event, Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, who was the chief guest, urged beneficiaries to use the funds prudently, noting that responsible use would earn them long-term support.
“They will remember us if they use the money wisely,” Kiunjuri said, adding that leaders could consider topping up the support once the initial funds are well utilized.
The event also took a political tone, with Kiunjuri criticizing opposition leaders, saying voters in the Mt Kenya region are now more informed and will base their choices on development records rather than political alignments.
“Every leader has a past—Kalonzo, Matiang’i, and Gachagua all have their history. We are in a digital era where what we say today will be revisited in the future,” he said.
He further accused some leaders of focusing on attacking the presidency instead of advancing development, claiming that such tactics no longer resonate with the public.
Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi echoed these sentiments, urging the opposition to shift focus from criticism to tangible development.
“We need leaders with vision—those who understand where the country should be in the coming years, not those who trade in insults,” Mwirigi said.
On security, Mwirigi addressed recent banditry attacks in parts of Buuri, Tigania, and Igembe, warning that decisive action would be taken against perpetrators and those failing in their duty to protect citizens.
He emphasized that leaders would hold security agencies accountable, noting that effective service delivery would ensure citizens fully benefit from government efforts.
