Residents of Kerwa Village in Mavuria Ward, Mbeere South Constituency, are set to benefit from improved access to technical education following the launch of Ngoori Polytechnic, a new vocational training institution established in Kerwa by area Member of County Assembly John Ngari Mbaka.
The institution, located in Kerwa in Mavuria Ward, is expected to equip local youth with practical technical skills aimed at improving employment opportunities and promoting self-reliance.
Speaking during the launch, Mbaka — popularly known as “Paka Power” — said the establishment of the polytechnic is meant to empower young people in the area through skills development.
He urged residents to support the growth of the institution by enrolling their children so they can acquire technical skills that will help them secure employment or start their own businesses.
Limited access to institutions of higher learning and vocational training centres has remained a major challenge in many rural areas across Kenya, often forcing young people to travel long distances in search of technical training.
Mbaka also called on both the national and county governments to support the institution by providing trained instructors, learning materials and other essential resources to ensure effective training.
Residents welcomed the initiative, saying the new polytechnic will make it easier for young people in Kerwa and the surrounding areas to access vocational education.
Mama Karimi, a resident of Kerwa Village in Mavuria Ward, said the institution will open employment opportunities for many youths who have been struggling to find jobs.
She noted that access to education and skills training will help keep young people engaged in productive activities, reducing cases of drug and substance abuse often associated with lack of employment.
