Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all county bar permits to pave the way for a new verification process.
The order follows the death of 21 Kirinyaga residents who consumed ethanol-laced alcohol.
Speaking during the burial event of 17 victims at Kangai Primary School in Mwea West Subcounty, the governor said the verification process aims at establishing those operating outside the legal guidelines.
“A new verification process and licensing will commence immediately,” she announced.
Waiguru added, “County employees and officers who run bars have to choose between their jobs and their businesses to safeguard society from conflict of interest that hinders us from enforcing our regulations.”
