Gor Mahia FC has secured the 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League title after a decisive 3-0 victory over Muhoroni Youth FC at a game played at the SportPesa Arena on Sunday.
The win has marked their 21st time championship leaving them with an eleven-point lead with only three games remaining before the season ends.
Gor Mahia delivered with goals from Benson Omalla, Boniface Omondi, and Austine Odhiambo.
The match saw Gor Mahia assert their dominance early, though an initial goal by Omalla in the third minute was disallowed for offside.
Despite Muhoroni Youth’s attempts to hold their ground, they could not withstand Gor Mahia’s relentless pressure.
Gor Mahia’s breakthrough came in the 40th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Rodgers Ouma was fouled in the box.
Omalla’s penalty miss was quickly forgotten as he scored two minutes later, giving Gor Mahia a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Gor Mahia extend their lead, with Omondi scoring just three minutes after the restart.
Odhiambo sealed the victory in the 65th minute, ensuring Gor Mahia’s triumph.
Head coach Johnathan McKinstry, who is set to leave the club for a new role as The Gambia’s national team coach, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“I am very pleased with how we played today and managed to get the title with three games left. I want to dedicate this win to the Gor Mahia fans who have always been with us and pushed us through each game of the season,” said McKinstry.
This victory adds to Gor Mahia’s illustrious history and sees K’Ogalo again representing Kenya in the 24/25 CAF champion league.
