In a bid to promote sustainable water management and environmental conservation, Embu Water and Sanitation Company (EWASCO) marked this year’s World Water Day with an ambitious tree-planting campaign in different parts of Embu County.
The week-long initiative, which ran from March 17 to March 22, 2025, saw EWASCO plant 2,000 trees in various locations, including its satellite offices, treatment plants, and schools such as Lions Primary School and Embu Shepherd School.
The climax of the event on World Water Day saw the company plant 1,000 trees at Irangi Forest, a key water catchment area in the region.
In a statement published on its social media platforms, the company leadership emphasized the significance of tree planting in water conservation efforts, noting, “Protecting our water sources starts with restoring and preserving our forests. Our goal is to plant 10,000 trees this year, and we are determined to achieve this target.”
The initiative aligns with national and global efforts to combat climate change and ensure water sustainability.

Local leaders, environmental activists, and community members joined the exercise, underscoring the collective responsibility of preserving freshwater resources.
World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, highlights the importance of freshwater and advocates for sustainable water management.
As climate change continues to threaten water availability, EWASCO’s reforestation drive is expected to play a vital role in improving water security and promoting environmental sustainability in Embu County.
