At least 67 youth groups in Embu County have been awarded Sh12 million from the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) to implement climate-focused projects aimed at combating the region’s environmental challenges.
The second phase of funding, launched during a ceremony at an Embu hotel, represents a significant increase from the previous phase of the initiative, which distributed Sh6 million to just 29 groups.
Deputy Governor Justus Kinyua Mugo, who represented Governor Cecily Mbarire at the launch, reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting climate change solutions through youth empowerment.
Mugo emphasized the vital role that young people can play in addressing climate issues and called for more green initiatives, including those focused on renewable energy, recycling, and sustainable agriculture.
“The youth have innovative solutions that can drive meaningful change,” Mugo said, noting that the fund would help create job opportunities for young people while promoting environmental sustainability.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, as successful projects would help attract future support from development partners.
The youth leaders who received the funding expressed their gratitude, highlighting the importance of the initiative in providing employment opportunities and fostering community engagement in climate resilience.
