The Embu Wasanii Sacco has been officially launched, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of economic empowerment for local artists.
Charles Mwaura, the Sacco Chairman, said the organization that has already been registered as a savings and credit cooperative registered over 70 members in their first meeting held last Friday.
“The Sacco is open for everyone within the creative industry. The target members include deejays, MCs, musicians, poets, and writers,” he said.
Others who are eligible to join include fine artists, comedians, content creators, those in the film and theater, and producers.
The Embu Wasanii Sacco aims to provide a structured financial platform for artists, enabling them to access credit facilities, savings, and investment opportunities tailored to their unique needs.
During the official unveiling ceremony at the Embu’s Talent Academy, Pithon Muchoki, Chief Officer of Sports, Talent Development & Creative Arts in Embu County emphasized the importance of the Embu Wasanii Sacco in fostering economic resilience among local artists.
“This Sacco represents a collective effort to empower our artists financially, providing them with the support and resources they need to thrive in their creative pursuits,” he said.
The Embu Wasanii Sacco would play a pivotal role in addressing the financial challenges that have hindered the growth of the local arts scene.
The launch marks the beginning of a new era for Embu artists, as they forge ahead with renewed hope and determination to build a prosperous future.
