Residents of Kiriari in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County have raised concerns over shoddy repairs on the Riamaciri–Mukangu road, accusing an unidentified contractor of worsening the road’s condition instead of improving it.
The community claims the contractor abandoned large soil heaps along the roadside, obstructing drainage systems. Recent rains have caused waterlogging, severely damaging the once-passable road.
Led by resident Bidan Murithi, locals said they reported the issue to Ruguru Ngandori MCA Muturi Mwombo and Kirimari MCA Ibrahim Swaleh. However, the two leaders distanced themselves from the works.
“It is not my project. Any road works through my office are documented and meet Kenya Roads Board standards,” Swaleh said.
Swaleh added that, “We’re investigating to identify the contractor behind this, as even now it’s unclear who did the repairs.“
Mwombo sympathized with residents, promising to pursue the matter with the Embu County Government.
“There’s a need to find out which contractor is behind this mess. I will personally follow up to ensure this road is restored,” he said.

Unofficial reports suggest a government officer residing near the area may know the contractor. Sources allege the officer initiated the project to help locals but a heavy downpour disrupted the work, leaving it incomplete.
Residents now want the county to urgently intervene and reconstruct the road properly.
