Farmers in Embu County have been encouraged to attend agricultural exhibitions in large numbers to gain modern farming skills and boost food production.

Speaking during the Manyatta Stakeholders Forum held at Kairuri Stadium in Manyatta Constituency on Thursday, Embu County Director of Agriculture Patrick Njeru said such events expose farmers to new technologies, best practices, and financial opportunities critical for agribusiness growth.

“We urge farmers to turn up in large numbers during these exhibitions because they can learn best farming practices, explore new technologies, and connect with financiers ready to support agribusiness,” said Njeru.

The event attracted over 500 farmers and traders despite cold, wet weather. It featured agricultural and financial experts, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Saccos, and local cooperatives.

Farmers showcased a variety of products and received training on sustainable farming methods.

Traditional herbalist Lucy Ndung’u, who exhibited herbal remedies, praised the event for providing a platform to promote indigenous knowledge. However, livestock exhibitions were notably absent.

Forum chairperson Thomas Njeru Nyaga attributed this to funding constraints, calling on the county government and development partners to support future editions.

“The turnout shows a clear desire among farmers to learn and improve their livelihoods,” Nyaga noted, adding that the forum, which began 12 years ago, continues to empower rural farmers through knowledge-sharing and innovation access.
