Embu County Commissioner Jack Obuo has issued a stern warning to drug and fake alcohol dealers, signaling an intensified crackdown.
Mr. Obuo said the security team would deal with facilities identified as operating illegally within the County.
The commissioner noted that they had operations that led to multiple arrests and significant seizures of illicit substances.
“The security team has intensified efforts in the crackdown on illegal drugs as evidenced by the arrest of 12 kg of bhang and 8,220 bottles of counterfeit alcohol since the beginning of February,” he said.
On Tuesday night, the security team nabbed alcohol estimated to be worth Sh5 million hidden in an Agrovet in Kianjokoma Market of Embu County.
Obuo said the security team acted swiftly after concerned members of the public provided the police with information.
He noted that the method used to store the alcohol posed consumption risks and raised doubts about whether the business was legal.
The store owner had not yet shown up to claim his property by the time of writing this story.
Obuo urged the public to continue reporting such incidents as they assist in the fight against dangerous illicit liquors.
