Embu County has allocated Sh28 million to four coffee factories—Gitwa, Kirimiri, Kathangariri, and Kivangua—aiming to enhance infrastructure and bolster the coffee sector.
The funds will facilitate the construction of solar dryers, installation of CCTV systems, and other critical improvements to modernize operations and improve security.
Speaking during the cheque disbursement event held at the Embu’s Talent Academy, Governor Cecily Mbarire announced the disbursement as part of ongoing reforms to revitalize the coffee industry and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
The beneficiary factories are located in Kyeni North, Kagaari North, Nginda, and Ruguru-Ngandori wards.
The Governor emphasized the county’s commitment to empowering farmers through strategic and sustainable initiatives, noting that the coffee sector continues to show strong growth and improved returns for farmers.
This investment aligns with broader efforts to transform Embu’s coffee industry, ensuring its continued growth and success.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor Kinyua Mugo, Members of County Assembly Hon. Macharia (Nginda), Hon. Muchangi (Gaturi North), Hon. Mwariama (Kagaari North), Hon. Mwombo (Ruguru-Ngandori), nominated MCAs Hon. Njimia and Hon. Maureen, along with CEC Agriculture, Chief Officers for Agriculture and Co-operatives, and other county officials.
The leaders warned locals against politicizing the initiative noting that it may cripple development.
