More than 280 households in Muminji Ward, Mbeere North Sub-County, have gained access to a safe and reliable water source following the completion of the Sh12 million Karambari-Karigori water pan, constructed as part of the Emergency Locust Response Project..
For years, residents endured long and dangerous treks to crocodile-infested rivers to fetch water. Now, with water tapped for easy access, the new project has brought immense relief to the community.
The new project, commissioned by Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, is expected to ease their burden.
“The county government remains committed to addressing water shortages through sustainable projects that improve livelihoods, support agriculture, and promote food security,” Governor Mbarire said during the commissioning ceremony.
Residents expressed relief and gratitude, terming the project a game-changer. Caterina Wanjiru, a local, recalled the hardships they faced.
“We used to walk long distances, sometimes in fear of crocodiles. Now, we have water near our homes, which will also boost our farming,” she said.

Another resident, Rosemary Mwengi, emphasized the project’s impact, saying, “This water pan is a lifeline. We no longer have to risk our safety or endure exhausting journeys for water.”
Project chairman Edward Nyaga assured residents of the community’s commitment to safeguarding the facility to ensure it serves future generations.
