Embu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for tourism, trade, and investment, Jamal Runyenje has committed to supporting local authors.
Recognizing the value of literary contributions to society, Runyenje said fostering a vibrant writing culture allows the transmission of knowledge and experience.
“For those who didn’t know, when you write a good piece, it becomes a business. As a county, we will continue working together to promote talent and business in Embu,” he said.
He expressed his dedication to promoting the arts, particularly emphasizing literature.
Speaking at the launch of the “Black Power and Other Poems book by Salesio Gitonga Njeru” Runyenje said writing encourages individuals to think critically, analyze information, and formulate coherent arguments.

He warned locals against neglecting books, noting that reading promotes a habit of lifelong learning, keeping individuals intellectually engaged and curious about the world.
“Failure to expand your knowledge in two years could leave you nearly illiterate,” cautioned Runyenje.
Runyenje encouraged the continuous production of informative books, recognizing the crucial role they play in enlightening society, a statement echoed by Felix Muriithi, Kimuri FM manager.
In the speech seen by Arise Media, Muriithi said books were not just bound pages, but they are society’s mirrors and windows into human experience.
He called upon the local media to support the art industry to have far-reaching positive effects on the local community.
“This activity provides an opportunity for us as a radio community to pledge our unwavering support to the creativity and work that enriches our culture and brings hope and prosperity to our society,” he said.
The author, Salesio Gitonga urged young writers to seek guidance and assistance from experienced ones to develop their skills and transition into professional writers.
He added that a professional author ought to be objective, truthful, and avoid narratives that do not glorify humanity.
