Farmers in the Manyatta Constituency of Embu County are gearing up to launch a Cooperative Society in an ambitious move to transform the agricultural landscape.
The society aims to empower local farmers by offering them a united platform to improve their agricultural practices, enhance market access, and increase their income through collective efforts.
Scheduled for March 2nd, 2024, the cooperative marks a significant milestone in the region’s agricultural sector, promising to unite small-scale and medium-scale farmers under a common goal of sustainable development and economic empowerment.
The Manyatta Growers’ Cooperative Society is a brainchild of the local MP, Gitonga Mukunji who said the initiative is a response to the challenges that Manyatta farmers have faced for years, including limited access to markets, high input costs, and the impacts of climate change.
“The cooperative society aims at helping to market and source better markets for our farm produce,” he said.
The MP has invited macadamia, avocado, banana, and all farmers to the launch that will take place at the University of Embu grounds at 10 am.
The MP revealed that Mafundi Sacco, CHPs SACCO would also be launched to support artisans and CHPs in the Manyatta Constituency.
The event dubbed Kujituma Empowerment Programme, will be presided over by H.E Rigathi Gachagua, the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
