A retirement ceremony for long-serving NICA Bishop Njeru Nyaga erupted into political chaos on Sunday after Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia made inflammatory remarks during what was meant to be a solemn church event.
Kaguchia stunned congregants when he accused Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen of ordering police shootings during the recent Gen Z protests and revealed that Parliament was planning to table an impeachment motion against the CS.
The remarks triggered immediate outrage from the congregation, with some members shouting him down and demanding an end to political speeches at the church.
“This is a church, not a political rally!” several worshippers yelled.
The situation escalated when a group of agitated men stormed the podium and pulled down Kaguchia’s microphone, effectively cutting short his speech.
Tension rose rapidly, prompting church leaders to surround the MP for his protection.
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire swiftly intervened to restore order.
“We have been in church service from morning. Bringing political speeches that provoke and anger the faithful is completely uncalled for,” she told the gathering, barring any further political remarks.
Kaguchia had been ushered to the stage by Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, who was also present.
The event, meant to honor Bishop Nyaga’s decades of service, ended in disarray, overshadowed by political drama that shocked many in attendance.
