Authorities in Embu County have raised alarm over the dramatic surge in illicit beer trafficking facilitated by motorcycles in the region.

This activity has posed a significant threat to public health and sparked fears of escalating criminality.

The motorcycles, known for their agility and ability to navigate through narrow alleys and rural terrain, have become the preferred mode of transportation for traffickers seeking to evade authorities.

Embu County Police Commander Nicholas Maina said on Wednesday, they nabbed 67 crates of Double Ice vodka and 6 cartons of Network vodka in a rental house in Kivwe, Embu County.

“Concerned public members provided the police with the information that led to the operation,” he said.

The commander said the method used to traffic the brews raised suspicions among the concerned members of the public.

“A Motorbike was used to transport the illegal brews. The law enforcement officers acted swiftly upon receiving the alert,” he said.

The owner of the brews and the motorbike rider managed to escape upon seeing the police. The police seized the motorbike used to transport the brews.

Maina emphasized the need for police to be vigilant against the trafficking of illegal brews using motorcycles, as this trend is on the rise.

He urged residents to continue reporting such cases as it would aid in the fight against illegal brews in the county.
