Let us reflect on something about this festive season, wastage; in all its various forms that vary from finances to consumables. And guess who is cashing on in this madness of wastage? It is the shrewd businessmen. It is the season of cashing in. The clothes vendors are having a field day. The grocery stall owners are smiling from cheek to cheek with fat wallets bulging at their bellies.
Can you believe that the touts that were smiling and holding your waist while they accepted your ridiculous fare are the same that are arrogantly shouting at you and telling the driver to step at the gas?
I am always amazed at the village shoppers. This is the time of the year when they get to push the supermarket trolley. Peep inside their trolley and you will be amazed.
A neighbor that I know was pushing a trolley full of bacon, juices, sausages, cereals, mineral water and ice-cream. And don’t forget, she has no fridge at home, let alone electricity! Whatever in the name of the Lord was the mineral water doing in that trolley?
The shopping is not the only thing that is done in conspicuous conspiracy version. Back in the home, people will overindulge in food and drinks. But unfortunately, there is a certain limit as to what our stomachs are capable of accommodating and come date 28th and the roaming stray dogs will have a field day feeding from the excess.
But to think about it, that wastage goes a long way and it is a blessing to many. And from our family to yours, may you have a Merry Christmas.
