Parents have been urged to spend more time with their children and take an active role in guiding them during the long Christmas holiday to nurture discipline, responsibility, and moral growth.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony for PP2, Grade 3, and Grade 6 learners and the launch of the school flag at White Swan Schools in Embu, school director Mrs. Joyce Njamiu challenged parents to invest in their children’s lives, saying that “parental responsibilities are not delegable.”

Mrs. Njamiu encouraged parents to stay close to their children, understand what they do and where they are, and give them age-appropriate responsibilities.

She also cautioned parents to monitor their children’s use of technology, noting that unmonitored exposure could introduce them to harmful social behaviors.

“Parents must ensure their children are safe and growing responsibly, just as schools safeguard them during the day with the help of guiding teachers,” she said, urging parents to offer regular guidance and remain available to their children.

Her sentiments were echoed by Mr. Patrick Ireri, the school’s co-director, who underscored the need for balance between learning and playtime, especially under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

He emphasized that teachers had done their part and called on parents to sustain that effort during the two-month holiday.

“However busy we are, we must befriend our children, guide them, and ensure their growth remains balanced both academically and morally,” Mr. Ireri said.

The duo called for positive parenting and stronger collaboration between teachers and parents to raise well-rounded, disciplined, and morally upright learners.
