Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji has launched Mobile Laboratories for distribution to seven Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in the constituency.

The aim is to enhance practical learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

Speaking at Kihumbu Primary School during the launch, Mukunji emphasized that the initiative would equip students with hands-on skills essential for the modern workforce in line with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“The labs will provide students with hands-on experience in STEM education, ensuring they are better prepared for future careers. This is a major step in strengthening science learning in our schools,” he said.

He further announced that within the next month, all schools in Manyatta Constituency will receive basic laboratory equipment to enhance academic performance.

“Today, we gave the labs to seven schools, and others will be distributed soon. Our goal is to ensure that every Junior Secondary School in Manyatta has access to practical science learning,” Mukunji added.

The project, a collaboration between the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and the Ministry of Education through the School Equipment Production Unit (SEPU), makes Manyatta the first constituency to implement such an initiative.

“The NG-CDF is fully committed to providing mobile laboratories because they are a cost-effective alternative to constructing permanent labs. The 48 mobile laboratories in Manyatta Constituency will be funded to the tune of Sh15.6 million from NG-CDF,” Kutundu said.

She further emphasized that the mobile labs would expose students to practical learning, enhancing their understanding of science subjects.

“The benefit of these mobile labs is to expose students and enable a smooth transition to STEM. We are financiers, and we will continue to approve such initiatives to enhance performance, especially in science subjects,” she added.

Mukunji also announced that the NG-CDF Board had approved 48 additional mobile laboratories for distribution to more Junior Secondary Schools in the constituency.

SEPU CEO Dr. Joel Mabonga among other education stakeholders attended the launch event.
